Computer breadboarding tip

Tech News and Views

Often, when troubleshooting computers, it helps to remove the motherboard from the case to breadboard the circuit. By connecting just the motherboard, power supply, CPU and fan, technicians can often ascertain problems through beep codes or the appearance of an image on the monitor.

But, after each component is tested, the system must be shut down. That normally involves unplugging the power supply. If the technician connects the power supply to a switched outlet strip, power can be started and stopped easily by turning off the strip.
